About Us

Bethlehem House began as a response to the needs of parents and guardians of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dolores Wilson, Founder and Director of Bethlehem House long held a vision of living in community with persons with intellectual limitations. She holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education; educator and administrator with Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute for 25 years and spent 22 years as Director of the Office for Persons with disabilities for the Archdiocese of Washington. The former connection of many years with the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur , the ministry in the Archdiocese of Washington and her belief in the philosophy of Jean Vanier all had lasting effects leading to the opening of Bethlehem House.

The staff is committed to developing the gifts of our friends with differences and providing an atmosphere of acceptance, hospitality, prayer and peaceful living together. These values unite to develop a strong sense of community .

The Community is the place of forgiveness and celebration, growth and liberation. ~Jean Vanier
